Case overview

Overview

CJVT, the Centre for Language Resources and Technologies at the University of Ljubljana, builds dictionaries, corpora and tools for the Slovene language.

CJVT Igre brings that work to everyone as five short word games, with a new round every day.

The goal

A public learning hub that people of all ages open for a few minutes a day, enjoy as a pleasant challenge and come back to tomorrow.

Why games

People open a dictionary when they need a word. They open a daily puzzle because they want to. Short rounds, one fresh puzzle a day and a clear finish turn language practice into a habit, not homework.

The result

109,420 visitors so far and 5,500 monthly active visitors, who play for 8:34 on average.

One new round a day

Five games. A reason to come back tomorrow.

Five ways to play with words.

Each game trains a different language skill, from spelling to vocabulary. All five refresh every day, and yesterday's round stays open for anyone who missed it.

The hub

Five games, one place

Every game has its own colour and icon, so players know where they are at a glance. Play without an account, or sign up to keep your results.

Cvetka: guess a word in the category of leisure facilities, with a letter keyboard and a flower
Cvetka

Save the flower

Guess the word from its category, one letter at a time, before you run out of tries and the flower wilts.

Besedolov: a letter grid with five hidden words on today's theme, occupations
Besedolov

Hunt the words

Find five words on today's theme, hidden in a grid of letters.

Vezalka: seven letters in a flower shape to build words from
Vezalka

Link the letters

Build as many words as you can from seven letters. Every word moves you up the progress bar.

Kombinator: pick the synonym of the word in the red box
Kombinator

Test your vocabulary

Round by round, starting with synonyms. Pick the word closest in meaning to the one in the red box.

Ugibanka: a written clue for the noun of the day, with three tries per clue
Ugibanka

Guess the word of the day

Read a clue and guess the word. Three tries per clue; stuck, and the next clue makes it easier.

Built for a daily habit.

Small, quick and fresh every day: the shape that keeps people coming back.

A new round daily

Every game gets a fresh puzzle each day. Missed one? Yesterday's round stays open.

Five mechanics

Guessing, word search, word building, synonyms and clues. Each one trains a different skill.

For all ages

Clear rules, a timer and a score. Easy to start for a pupil, hard enough for a language lover.

Play first, sign up later

Anyone can play straight away. An account is there for players who want to keep their results.
